When it doesn't work - an example

Yesterday, I've seen an example of theoretically proper painting scheme which unfortunately does not work for me. It was despite the fact that, I like brown colors a lot. Check these pics below. The painting is fine but overall look is somehow flat and not appealing...

  1. I like the desert scheme look. Nice to see someone getting away from green.

  2. I think the colors work on the infantry, but the vehicles are not shaded or highlighted at all.

I like brown color schemes also, but this is not done very well. The camouflage is used as the only detail on the vehicles, and makes them all look flat.

    It's not a bad-looking army, but not a very good-looking one either.

  3. Of course that this army (there were more models) is not a bad painted one. It just lacks some final touch to be great.

  4. I agree. The infantry models look good but the colours look a bit flat on the vehicles. An inkwash would really improve the paintjob dramatically.

  5. It does look flat on the vehicles, but the men are quite good.
